Qingzhou, a city with a long history in Shandong province, is known for its former glory as a Buddhist hub dated to the fourth century and throughout the 14th century. Buddhist statues from the most prosperous period of Qingzhou have been excavated, researched and exhibited widely.

The city's historical and cultural accumulations have kept drawing modern artists, including Kuang Wei, a calligrapher who also teaches at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.

Kuang is now holding a solo exhibition at the Qingzhou Art Museum, a new addition to the city's cultural landscape. The calligraphic pieces on show create a chemistry with the unique architecture of the museum which was built in a classic style to fit in the serene, historical atmosphere of Qingzhou.
